Katherine Knight Johnson, 91, passed away, June 16, 2013. She was a resident of Wesley Towers in Hutchinson for many years. She was born Sept 10, 1921 in Memphis, Tenn, to John Robert and Birdie Lamb Knight.

She was preceded in death by a brother John Knight of Chattanooga, Tenn. She graduated from Messick High School and attended Washington University in Memphis. One of her greatest pleasures was teaching piano lessons in her home and to this day has students who remember their time with her. She was an avid K-State, KC Chiefs and KC Royals fan, and she also enjoyed her bridge games.
On Jan. 12, 1946 she married George L. Johnson, founder of Johnson Music Center; he passed away Aug. 23, 1994. Survivors include three sons; Craig and wife Pat, Dennis, Mike and Wife Nancy Johnson, all of Hutchinson, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10:00am Friday, June 21 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. Visitation will be from 9:00am to 9:00pm, Wednesday and Thursday, with the family present Thursday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Wesley Towers, Trinity United Methodist Church or Hospice House in care of the funeral home.
